Teams from UK and US to visit Pakistan for revival of PIA flights: DG CAA

The Director General (DG) of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Nadir Shafi Dar, has announced that teams from the UK and the US will visit Pakistan in January and February, respectively, to address the lifting of restrictions on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He also hinted that airfares are likely to decrease as a result.

In a media briefing, Nadir Shafi Dar revealed that it took more than three years of sustained efforts to lift the ban on PIA's flights to Europe. He credited both the European Union and the Government of Pakistan for their support in removing the restrictions.

However, Dar highlighted challenges in the process, including the restructuring of the CAA and the implementation of new legislation, which had initially delayed the ban's removal. He also announced that PIA is expected to resume flights to Paris by mid-January.

Addressing concerns over safety and maintenance, the DG emphasized that PIA has been clearly instructed to adhere to strict regulatory standards. He noted that a British team will arrive in January to begin preparations for the resumption of flights, while a five-member US team will visit in February to finalize the clearance process.

Dar further revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the CAA is committed to a zero-tolerance policy on safety and regulatory compliance.

Regarding airfares, the DG expressed optimism that ticket prices on all three major international sectors are expected to decline in the near future.
