Degree scandal forces PIA’s Deputy Station Manager to resign
Iqbal Javed Bajwa, Deputy Station
Manager for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in Birmingham, UK has stepped
down following the revelation that his educational certificate was fraudulent.
Bajwa, who is reportedly the brother
of former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, was asked to resign
after failing to validate the authenticity of his Intermediate certificate. The
airline issued him a show cause notice on July 13, 2024, demanding proof of his
degree's legitimacy within seven days or face termination. This action was
taken for breaching PIA’s Employees Disciplinary Policy 2019.

The Board of Intermediate and
Secondary Education Lahore confirmed that Bajwa did not pass the Intermediate
examination under the roll number 25703 provided. The board's verification,
sent to PIA management, supported the claim that Bajwa's certificate was
invalid.
The notice was issued in response to
a directive from August of the previous year, which required all PIA employees
to submit valid educational certificates. Bajwa, who had been with PIA since
1977 and later transferred to the UK office in the late 1980s, was unable to
provide the necessary documentation to support his claims.
