World's largest Saudi airport to be completed by 2030
The colossal King Salman
International Airport in Riyadh, currently under construction, is expected to
become the world's largest airport upon its completion in 2030. According to
the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia, the airport will cover
over 57 square kilometers and feature six massive parallel runways,
recreational facilities, residential units, and a 12-kilometer-wide retail
space.
Integration and Strategic Importance
The new airport will integrate with
the existing operational terminals of King Khaled International Airport. This
construction is part of Saudi Arabia's plans to transform Riyadh into a global
logistics hub and to bridge transport gaps between Saudi Arabia and Western
countries.

Features and Budget
Riyadh is set to host an
aerotropolis, King Salman International Airport, which will be the largest in
the world once construction and expansion plans are completed. The airport,
envisioned as an eco-friendly initiative, will incorporate technological
advancements to ensure water and electricity conservation. Initially serving
over 100 million passengers annually, it is projected to handle over 185
million passengers and 3.5 million tonnes of cargo by 2050.
Under Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed
bin Salman Al Saud’s Vision 2030, the airport's construction is budgeted at
over USD 29 billion. The design and construction are managed by Foster +
Partners, a renowned UK-based architecture and design firm. Mace Group, another
UK-based firm, will oversee project management, design management, cost
consulting, and procurement advice. The airport is expected to create over
150,000 jobs once operational.

Vision 2030 and Tourism
Vision 2030 is a Saudi Arabian
initiative aimed at enhancing the country's social, economic, and cultural
growth, solidifying its global presence as a business and tourism hub. Other
notable projects under Vision 2030 include Neom City in Tabuk, the Red Sea
project, and The Rig in the Persian Gulf.
Saudi Arabia is also emerging as a major
adventure tourism destination, known for attractions such as King Fahad’s
Fountain, Red Sea Mall, Uhud Mountain, Hegra, and King Abdullah Park.
