New Gwadar Airport successfully tests navigational system
In a significant development, a
high-tech navigational system has been activated at New Gwadar International
Airport, enhancing the functionality of sensor and signaling processes,
aeronautical positioning mechanisms, and flight management systems.
The navigation system is crucial for
determining an aircraft’s coordinates, altitude, speed, and other parameters,
using geo radio positioning through a network of artificial satellites in
orbit.

"The NGIA navigational system
configures the autopilot to follow the pre-set route before take-off, as well
as the take-off and approach routes based on flight controller information. It
calculates flight parameters, recommends power settings to reduce fuel
consumption, and estimates arrival times along the route," said a Civil
Aviation Authority of Pakistan (CCCP) official.
In addition to the navigation
system, advanced telecommunication systems have been activated, including a
top-notch Wi-Fi system. NGIA’s state-of-the-art telecommunication
infrastructure uses various technologies and protocols to facilitate voice,
data, and audio-video transmission between devices.

New Gwadar International Airport
(NGIA), a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), cost
Rs. 60.208 billion, with Rs. 33 billion from a Chinese grant and Rs. 27 billion
from the Pakistani and Omani governments. The fencing around the airport has
been completed through the joint efforts of professional teams from China
Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the Civil Aviation Authority
(CAA) of Pakistan.
Spanning 4,300 acres, NGIA is set to
accommodate both national and international passengers. In its second phase, a
cargo complex will be built to handle various types of cargo. NGIA will be the
largest airport in Pakistan and the nation’s second international airport,
capable of accommodating narrow-body aircraft like the ATR 72 and Boeing B-737,
as well as wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A-380 and Boeing B-747 for
domestic and international routes.
