PIA’s operation paralyzed as more flights cancelled
A crisis in the aviation sector has paralyzed Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA), resulting in the cancellation of 25 flights
across the country. The dispute over outstanding dues between PIA and Pakistan
State Oil (PSO) has intensified, leading to a complete suspension of the
national airline's domestic flight operations.
According to a PIA spokesperson, out of the 52 international
flights scheduled, only four managed to take off. During the weekend, flights
to destinations such as China, Kuala Lumpur, Canada, and Istanbul proceeded as
planned, but none of the 29 domestic flights were able to depart due to payment
interruptions caused by weekend bank closures.
PSO
restores fuel supply to PIA aircraft after advance payment
PIA remains hopeful that flight operations will resume once
today's credit line becomes accessible, and the airline's management is
actively engaged in discussions with PSO. In light of the ongoing situation,
PIA has assured affected passengers that alternative arrangements will be made.
The financial crisis that triggered the cancellation of 25
flights has left numerous passengers stranded. Aviation authorities attribute
this disruption to a fuel adjustment plan, which is expected to significantly
impact both domestic and international flight operations. Presently, only five
flights are scheduled to operate to and from Karachi, indicating the severity
of the aviation crisis.
