Huge quantity of narcotics concealed in dry fruits seized at
Karachi airport
In a significant operation conducted at Karachi's Jinnah
International Airport, the Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell made a major
discovery on Saturday. They uncovered a significant stash of crystal
methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "crystal ice," with an
estimated street value of Rs300 million.
The illegal narcotics were cleverly concealed within three baskets of dry fruits that had initially been sent from Afghanistan to Bahrain
and subsequently returned to Pakistan.
The contraband had been dispatched to an individual named
Gulbaz Khan, residing in Bahrain. However, the parcel returned unattended, and
according to international law, it could not be opened without proper
authorization from the intended recipient.
Collector Shafiq Ahmed, stationed at Jinnah International
Airport's terminal, suspects that Gulbaz Khan, possibly fearing legal
consequences, opted not to receive the parcel and instead decided to send it
back.

The bags of dry fruits, originally sent from Mazar Sharif,
Afghanistan, were linked to an individual named Rafi from Afghanistan. Since
Pakistan shares a border with Afghanistan, the bags of dry fruits arrived at
Karachi's Jinnah International Airport with the intention of being transported
back to Afghanistan via Peshawar.
However, the vigilant officials from the Customs Drug
Enforcement Cell noticed irregularities that raised suspicions of hidden
contraband. Their thorough inspection ultimately led to the discovery of 14.5
kilograms of high-quality crystal meth cleverly concealed among the fruits,
effectively thwarting a potential smuggling operation.
A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by a
customs preventive officer, and further investigations into the matter are
currently underway.
