Pakistan’s airspace equipped with latest radar system
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced that
Pakistan's airspace is now equipped with a cutting-edge radar system, ensuring
comprehensive coverage for all aircraft, including those in transit, during
landing, and taking off within Pakistan's airspace.
In a press release, the CAA spokesperson explained that this
radar system consists of ground-based equipment, including VOR (VHF
Omnidirectional Range), which provides azimuth information for both high and
low-altitude routes, as well as airport approaches. Additionally, the system
includes ILS (Instrument Landing System), a precision runway approach aid that
offers pilots precise vertical and horizontal guidance during landing.
In terms of navigation, the CAA clarified that GPS (Global
Positioning System) is used, a utility owned by the USA. GPS comprises a
network of satellites, with 31 currently orbiting the Earth, offering users
accurate position, velocity, and time information worldwide.
It is important to note that disruptions in GNSS (Global
Navigation Satellite System) performance, potentially leading to signal loss or
degradation in timing and positioning accuracy, may occur due to space weather
events, specifically Ionospheric disturbances. It's crucial to emphasize that
such Ionospheric activity is unrelated to the functionality of ground-based
equipment.
