Financially starved Pakistan
facing difficulty to pay international airlines
The severe financial
crisis in Pakistan has forced it to not clear the dues of $290 million it owes
to international airlines.
According to a report of
Financial Times, the situation has emerged as Pakistan is struggling to sign a
deal with the International Monetary Fund to keep its economy afloat.
Pakistan
Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) says it is trying to pay the dues
of airlines
on time and has been in contact with them.
The
report quotes International Air Transport Association (IATA) as saying that it
has become increasingly difficult for carriers to serve Pakistan as they are struggling
to repatriate their dues in dollar
The
IATA, which represents some 300 airlines comprising 83 per cent of global air
traffic, said $290m were stuck in Pakistan as of January 2023, up by almost a
third since December.
