Chinese
president likely to inaugurate Pakistan’s Gwadar airport
Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to inaugurate the Gwadar airport
in Pakistan’s coastal city during his upcoming visit to the South Asian nation.
This was
stated by former caretaker Chief Minister Balochistan Alauddin Marri during his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (ICCI).
Gwadar
airport is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a
cornerstone of the One Belt One Road initiative of China.
During his
interaction with ICCI officials, Marri said that the port city offers huge
business opportunities to both local and foreign investors in several sectors
including tourism, trade logistics, fisheries, processing, and manufacturing
business.
Meanwhile,
preparations
are underway to make New Gwadar International Airport functional and test
flight will be conducted in March this year.
Modern runway of green
field of Gwadar International Airport will be able to handle large cargo planes
from across the world. The new Gwadar International Airport is likely to be
completed in June 2023.
Single runway has been
built on new Gwadar International Airport which is over three and
half kilometers long.
Gwadar airport is likely to be formally opened for international flights in September this year.
