Emirates Academy supplies 53 new pilots to aviation industry
The third graduation ceremony of Emirates Flight Training
Academy on December 8 (EFTA) saw 53 new pilots ready to serve the aviation
industry.
This brings the total number of pilots to over 100 the
academy has so far produced since its first graduation in 2020.
The occasion was also notable as the first time international
candidates have graduated from the Emirati academy.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al
Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates, along with Sir
Tim Clark, President of Emirates; Adel Al Redha, COO of Emirates; and Mohammed
Abdullah Ahli, Director General of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA).
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Ahmed said, “Today’s
graduation ceremony marks the achievement of our long-term vision for
establishing the state-of-the-art Emirates Flight Training Academy to welcome
and nurture young talent not just locally, but globally."
New pilots to help overcome industry shortage
Even before the COVID pandemic exacerbated staff shortages, pilots were in hot demand to keep up with the industry's projected growth. Consulting firm Oliver Wyman projects there will be a global gap of around 34,000 pilots by 2025, which could reach as high as 50,000 in a worst-case scenario.
