US delegation discusses restoration of direct air links between Pakistan and the United States
US Consul General in
Karachi Charles Goodman has praised the Pakistan
Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for its efforts to maintain international
standards of aviation safety and security, as Pakistan and the United States
continue discussions on establishing direct air connectivity.
Goodman, accompanied by Lucas Caltrider, Fahd Zaidi and
Tashfeen, visited the PCAA headquarters where he met Director General Nadir
Shafi Dar and senior officials responsible for aviation safety, security and
regulatory affairs.
According to a PCAA statement, the meeting focused
primarily on progress towards the establishment of long-awaited direct air
links between Pakistan and the United States.
Dar briefed the US delegation on steps taken by the
aviation regulator towards achieving the objective, while Air Commodore (retd)
Shahid Qadir, Director Aviation Security and Facilitation, outlined Pakistan’s
aviation security framework and its alignment with international requirements
and US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) standards.

Director Flight Standards Qaisar Yar briefed the
delegation on Pakistan’s aviation safety measures and their conformity with
applicable standards of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Goodman appreciated the PCAA’s efforts to uphold
international aviation safety and security standards and assured the US
mission’s full support for initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation
between the two countries in civil aviation.
He said the establishment of direct air connectivity
could further strengthen the longstanding Pakistan-US relationship and provide
additional opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued
engagement and collaboration in the aviation sector, with the meeting
concluding on a positive note.

The visit was seen as another step towards achieving the milestone of direct
flights between Pakistan and the United States. At the conclusion of the
meeting, Dar presented the US consul general with a commemorative shield on
behalf of the PCAA.
