Canva proposed a public-facing campaign titled "By Pakistanis, for Pakistan"

Global graphic design platform keen on designing PIA's new logo and re-branding

In a major development for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), global graphic design platform Canva has offered to organize and fully finance a nationwide design competition aimed at creating a complete brand refresh for the newly privatized carrier.

The proposal was announced by Ahmed Iqbal, Canva’s General Manager for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, via a LinkedIn post. The initiative seeks to involve local creative talent in redefining the visual identity of the national airline as it transitions under new ownership and management in 2026.

Engaging the Nation in PIA's New Era

Highlighting PIA’s historic aviation legacy—recalling an era when the carrier trained international pilots and helped establish foreign airlines—Iqbal emphasized that rebuilding public confidence requires broad engagement.

Referencing statements from PIA’s incoming leadership that "a nation's trust has to be earned, it cannot be taken for granted," Canva proposed a public-facing campaign titled "By Pakistanis, for Pakistan."

Under the terms of the proposal:

·       Full Financial Backing: Canva will bear the complete cost of organizing the competition, including a substantial prize pool for participating designers.

·       Scope of Work: Pakistani creatives will be invited to submit designs for a brand-new PIA logo and a comprehensive set of brand identity guidelines.

·       Platform for Talent: The competition aims to showcase domestic creative talent while honoring Pakistan’s design heritage on a high-profile national asset.

Appeal to PIA Leadership

To move the initiative forward, Iqbal issued a public call requesting connections to PIA’s senior executive management to present the proposal formally.

If accepted by the airline's new leadership, the competition could mark one of the most prominent public-driven rebranding efforts in Pakistan's corporate history.
