Planning phase of Faisalabad Airport to begin on April 21, 2026
Faisalabad
is set to get a new greenfield airport following a consultancy agreement signed
between the Pakistan
Airports Authority (PAA) and Lebanon’s Dar Al-Handasah.
The agreement marks a significant step in Pakistan’s ongoing aviation
infrastructure expansion.
Master Planning and Consultancy Services
Under the deal, a joint venture—DAR-OCL-ASIAN
JV—will provide master planning and consultancy services for the proposed
Faisalabad airport. The planning phase is scheduled to commence on April 21,
2026. Being a greenfield airport, the facility will be constructed from scratch
on undeveloped land, rather than expanding an existing airport.

The project is part of Pakistan’s broader
strategy to upgrade aviation infrastructure in key industrial hubs. Faisalabad,
a central city for the country’s textile exports, is expected to benefit
economically from enhanced connectivity.
Strategic Infrastructure Growth
“The consultancy agreement for the Faisalabad
Greenfield Airport project has been signed, and the planning phase will
formally begin later this month,” the PAA said.
Pakistan has increasingly turned to
international expertise for major infrastructure initiatives, particularly in
transport and logistics, to strengthen connectivity and support export-led
growth. Recent examples include the inauguration of New Gwadar International Airport in 2024, a $246
million project, and the opening of Islamabad
International Airport in 2018, the country’s first greenfield airport.
