Islamabad Airport launches 5G services in partnership with a private telecom operator
Islamabad International Airport
has officially become the first airport in Pakistan to offer 5G services,
marking a major milestone in the country’s digital infrastructure.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA)
announced that the launch of 5G connectivity was achieved in partnership with a
private telecom operator, providing passengers with ultra-fast internet and
enhanced digital facilities throughout the airport.
High-Speed Connectivity for Travelers
“The newly launched 5G services will enhance
passengers’ travel experience with high-speed connectivity and advanced digital
amenities,” the PAA said in an official statement.

This rollout follows Pakistan’s recent 5G
spectrum auction, which raised $507 million to expand next-generation internet
services nationwide. Telecom operators plan to first deploy 5G in Islamabad and
provincial capitals, with broader nationwide coverage expected in the near
future.
Spectrum Allocation
During the auction, the government offered 480
MHz of spectrum, slightly below the initially planned 597 MHz. Three leading
telecom operators—Jazz, Zong, and Ufone—successfully
secured frequencies to launch 5G services across the country.
The
initiative positions Islamabad Airport as a technological frontrunner in
Pakistan, offering travelers faster connectivity and modern digital conveniences
as part of a broader national push toward high-speed mobile networks.
