PIA directed to reinstate employee to her position
A court has upheld the reinstatement of a Pakistan International Airlines employee,
rejecting a petition challenging the decision to overturn her dismissal.
The court directed PIA to restore the employee, Saima Hafeez Soomro, to her position and pay all
outstanding dues and benefits.
In its remarks, the court stated that no irregularities were found in the decisions of lower forums, adding there was no justification for interference by the High Court.

During proceedings, PIA’s counsel argued that
the employee was issued a show-cause notice in 2017 for absence from duty and
was later dismissed following an inquiry.
However, the employee’s lawyer maintained that
the dismissal was unlawful, stating she had taken leave due to her father’s
illness and had sufficient leave balance, which was not approved by the HR
department.
The counsel also argued that the show-cause notice was issued after the legal time limit and that she was denied the right to cross-examine witnesses during the inquiry, rendering the proceedings invalid.
