The consortium managing the airline has accelerated its search for a professional CEO, preferably a highly competent Pakistani national or an experienced foreign expert. There is also consideration to retain the current CEO in an advisory role to ensure a smooth transition.
Earlier, during the privatization process, the Arif Habib Consortium submitted the highest bid of Rs135 billion, securing the largest stake in PIA, while the Lucky Consortium followed closely with a bid of Rs134 billion.
Privatization Commission Advisor Mohammad Ali stated that the privatization of PIA is part of the government’s broader reform agenda. He clarified that the objective is not merely to sell the airline but to stabilize and improve its operations. He further noted that 92.5 percent of the funds raised through the bid will be allocated toward enhancing PIA’s operational performance.
