Pakistan’s Gwadar International Airport to play a major role in regional connectivity
Construction has begun on a major
air-cargo building at New
Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), a key element of the airport’s master
plan designed to enhance the movement of goods within Pakistan and abroad.
According to Gwadar Pro, the new
facility is being built to handle containerised cargo and will feature advanced
systems for managing heavy and oversized freight. Its design reflects
considerations such as labour costs, freight volumes and the need for secure,
sustainable operations.

An NGIA official said the upcoming cargo complex would be “safe, secure, sustainable, automated, connected and smart,” enabling seamless data exchange, end-to-end visibility and AI-driven optimisation. The facility will include autonomous ground-support equipment, real-time tracking and integrated infrastructure to boost efficiency, asset utilisation and shipment-flow transparency.
Pakistan’s air-cargo sector is
undergoing a significant modernisation phase amid rising trade volumes,
evolving customer expectations, stricter regulations and growing demands for
resilience and sustainability. Ageing and largely manual cargo systems across
the country are increasingly under pressure to upgrade and scale to meet future
needs.
