Air Karachi launched restoring Karachi's historic role in air travel 

Pakistan’s aviation landscape witnessed a significant addition as Air Karachi, a newly established private airline, officially launched its operations during a ceremony held at Karachi’s Old Airport — marking a milestone in restoring the city’s historic role in air travel, ARY News reported.

Addressing the ceremony, Air Karachi Chairman Hanif Gohar said the airline was founded by 42 partners, all sharing a common vision to reestablish Karachi’s prominence in aviation. “We had pledged to launch an airline under Karachi’s name, and today that promise has been fulfilled,” Gohar said, recalling his first application for an airline license in 2006.

He expressed gratitude to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his efforts in promoting investment and economic revival, noting that Air Karachi reflects the national drive to strengthen domestic industries. Gohar also announced an initial investment of Rs 5 billion, with each shareholder contributing Rs 50 million.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of Defense Muhammad Ali lauded Karachi’s business community for taking the initiative, remarking that “Karachi’s businessmen have once again brought pride to the nation.” He assured the government’s full support for private airlines and aviation stakeholders to foster sustainable sectoral growth.

The Defense Secretary further shared that Air Karachi’s collaboration with PIA aims to enhance operational efficiency within the national aviation network. The airline has applied for a Regular Public Transport (RPT) license with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), pending final federal approval before commencing flight operations.

Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Air Karachi plans to begin operations with three leased aircraft. The airline’s prominent shareholders include Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, SM Tanveer, Bashir Jan Muhammad, Khalid Tawab, Zubair Tufail, and Hamza Tabani. Retired Air Vice Marshal Imran has been appointed as the airline’s Chief Executive Officer.
