Pakistan, Ethiopia discuss enhancing cooperation between their air forces
Lieutenant General Yilma Merdassa, Commander of the Ethiopian Air Force, met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters in Islamabad to discuss strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, joint training programs, and technological collaboration.
On arrival, the Ethiopian commander
received a Guard of Honour from a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent. During
the discussions, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in training, capacity
building, and aviation technology. Air Chief Marshal Sidhu reaffirmed
Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia in enhancing its operational
capabilities and emphasized the importance of closer defence ties.

General Merdassa expressed appreciation for the PAF’s combat experience, integrated command systems, and indigenous technological advancements, highlighting interest in technology transfer and modernizing Ethiopia’s aviation sector. He also commended the PAF’s readiness, multi-domain capabilities, and credible deterrence posture.
As part of his visit, the Ethiopian
commander was briefed at the National ISR & Integrated Air Operations
Centre and the PAF Cyber Command, recognizing Pakistan’s technological progress
in modern warfare.
The visit underscores the shared
commitment of Pakistan and Ethiopia to deepen defence collaboration and
strengthen bilateral relations.
