Pakistan, Ethiopia discuss cooperation in defence, aviation
Minister for Defence and Defence Production, Khawaja Muhammad Asif met with
the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) in
Islamabad on Wednesday to explore various avenues for strengthening bilateral
and multilateral cooperation in defence and aviation.
The meeting between Special Envoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of FDR Ethiopia, Jemal Beker Abdula, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif,
highlighted ongoing cooperation between the two countries across multiple
sectors.

Khawaja Asif extended his condolences for the lives lost in the recent
landslide incidents in the Gofa region of Ethiopia. He reaffirmed the Pakistani
government's commitment to support Ethiopia during these difficult times.
The minister emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to increasing its presence in
Africa, a continent with over 1.4 billion people and vast untapped resources.
He acknowledged Ethiopia's pivotal role in the effective implementation of
Pakistan's "Look Africa and Engage Africa" policy, positioning
Ethiopia as a gateway to the continent.
Khawaja Asif praised the commencement of Ethiopian Airlines' operations in
Karachi, which has significantly enhanced bilateral relations, especially in
terms of people-to-people and business-to-business ties between Ethiopia and
Pakistan. He commended the economic progress achieved under the leadership of
Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, noting the successful implementation
of economic reforms for peace and prosperity.

to launch direct flights to Pakistan
Ambassador Jemal Beker expressed gratitude for Pakistan's continued support
at both bilateral and multilateral levels. He briefed the minister on
Ethiopia's ongoing economic reforms aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability,
attracting Foreign Direct Investment, increasing productivity, and creating
jobs. He also updated the minister on the relief and rescue efforts in the Gofa
region for the permanent relocation of affected persons.
