Pakistan to issue tender for e-gates project

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has completed the design phase of its e-gates project for Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore international airports, marking a significant step toward modernizing airport infrastructure through smart technology.

The milestone follows an intensive three-day series of workshops and consultations with key stakeholders. The e-gates initiative is designed to introduce biometric-based automated border control, aimed at reducing passenger wait times, enhancing security, and improving the overall travel experience.

AI-Enabled Transformation

The e-gates program is part of the PAA’s broader vision to incorporate artificial intelligence and smart technologies into airport operations. As part of these efforts, the authority’s IT Branch has initiated parallel projects focused on AI-powered systems to streamline airport functions and elevate passenger services.

In pursuit of this digital transformation, a PAA IT delegation recently visited a Huawei facility to explore collaboration opportunities. Discussions focused on AI-driven surveillance systems, smart infrastructure, digital twin technology, and real-time analytics platforms to support next-generation airport operations.

The PAA’s move toward smart airports reflects Pakistan’s growing commitment to digital innovation in aviation, aimed at delivering faster, safer, and more efficient travel experiences.
