Pakistan to install e-gates to improve airport security

In a significant move towards modernizing airport security and enhancing passenger experience, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has initiated a project to install e-gates at three of the country's busiest airports: Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.

The project was officially launched during a ceremony at the PAA headquarters, with representatives from M2P Consulting, an international firm specializing in airport systems, in attendance.

The agreement for the project was signed by Christophe Mostert, Managing Partner at M2P Consulting, and Kashif S. Jillani, Director of Engineering Services at PAA. Also present at the event were Deputy Director General of Airports Sadiq ur Rehman and Deputy Director General of Works and Development Sumair Saeed.

The 24-month execution plan outlines the development of advanced e-gate systems, covering all stages from planning and design to installation and implementation. Following a competitive selection process, M2P Consulting will oversee the technical supervision of contractors during the implementation phase.

The team will begin assessments at Karachi International Airport tomorrow, following prior surveys conducted at Islamabad and Lahore airports.

The new e-gates will integrate International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards with existing airport systems, improving security and streamlining the passenger flow. With biometric identity checks automated, manual procedures will be minimized, enabling faster processing for travelers.
