Pakistan’s Fly Jinnah to launch Karachi to Dhaka flights 

Bangladesh has approved Fly Jinnah, a private Pakistani airline, to begin direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka. This marks the return of direct air connectivity between the two cities after almost a decade.

The approval was granted by Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAB). CAAB Chairman, Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, confirmed the decision, saying, "They applied, and we granted it."

For Fly Jinnah to start operations, the airline is required to appoint a local General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh. Once this step is completed, the airline will be allocated the necessary slots and frequencies for the route.

Previously, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had operated direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka until February 2015. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain, announced that operations would commence soon following an agreement with Fly Jinnah on January 30.

Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have strengthened recently, particularly after the ousting of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. In December 2024, Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, further cementing their ties.
