Aviation Division formally integrated into Defence Ministry
The Aviation Division has officially
been integrated into the Defence Ministry, following a decision approved by the
federal cabinet.
As part of this transition, the Defence
Ministry has issued directives instructing all relevant agencies, including Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and
the Airport Security Force (ASF), to coordinate their operational
matters under its jurisdiction.
Government’s
Streamlining Initiative
This merger is part of the federal
government’s broader strategy to streamline operations and reduce expenditures.
Earlier, a committee-led review under Wave-1 targeted multiple ministries for

According to the Ministry of Finance,
the first phase included the consolidation of the Ministries of Kashmir Affairs
and Gilgit-Baltistan, SAFRON (States and Frontier Regions), Information
Technology and Telecom, Industries and Production, National Health Services,
and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). These changes resulted in reducing
80 associated entities to 40, significantly cutting down government expenses.
Future
Restructuring Plans – Wave 2
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb
emphasized that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives, the
restructuring process would continue under Wave-2, assessing additional
ministries. This phase will include:
- Ministry of Science and Technology
- Commerce Division

- Ministry of National Food Security and Research
From the 60 entities currently under
these ministries, the government plans to dissolve 25, reduce 20, and merge or
