PIA special flight evacuates 71 Pakistanis from Syria and Lebanon

71 Pakistanis evacuated from Syria and Lebanon in a special PIA flight 

A special flight operated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) successfully evacuated 71 Pakistani nationals from Lebanon and Syria, landing in Karachi in the early hours of Wednesday.

The flight carried 67 Pakistanis repatriated from Lebanon, who traveled overland to Damascus before being airlifted back to Pakistan. Additionally, four other nationals from Syria were included in the evacuation, as confirmed by the Foreign Office.  

The Foreign Office stated that the Pakistan Embassy in Lebanon and Syria coordinated security, transportation, and food arrangements to ensure a smooth evacuation process.

Upon arrival, the evacuees were greeted by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Sindh Industries Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo.

Governor Tessori reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of all stranded Pakistanis in Lebanon, assuring that efforts are underway to repatriate the remaining nationals soon. He expressed gratitude for the swift actions of the embassies that facilitated the return of these individuals from war-affected areas.

Federal Minister Siddiqui highlighted the challenges involved in the operation, commending the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for taking full responsibility for the safe return of Pakistani citizens.

Minister Dharejo acknowledged the Sindh government’s efforts in supporting this initiative.

Last month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) to assist Pakistani nationals and their families in Lebanon, where many were left stranded due to the suspension of flight operations.
