Initiative launched to enhance security of Noor Khan Airbase
The Rawalpindi district administration has launched an initiative
to enhance security measures around the Nur Khan Airbase, focusing on curbing
activities such as pigeon flying, kite flying, and aerial firing.
In response to stringent directives from sensitive institutions, a
high-level committee has been formed, comprising officials from various
institutions. This committee includes representatives from the Pakistan Air
Force, local police units such as the special branch and female police
personnel, as well as officials from the district council and Rawalpindi
Municipal Corporation. District Officer Civil Defense Talib Hussain leads this
committee.

The operational team, consisting of five armed police personnel
and ten civil defense uniformed personnel, has been tasked with daily
operations. Recent activities included the removal of pigeon houses and large
iron nets from rooftops in eleven houses, along with the confiscation of
pigeons.
Unlike intermittent operations in the past, the current directive
mandates daily actions. The committee is empowered to access properties where
rooftop pigeon nets obstruct entry, with female police assistance if needed.
Talib Hussain, the committee's chairperson, confirmed that this
operation is the second phase, following a prior warning issued before Ramazan
for residents to remove pigeon nets within a month. Non-compliance now results
in severe penalties, including up to six months' imprisonment and fines up to Rs0.2
million.

Activities like pigeon flying, kite flying, and aerial firing pose
risks to aircraft and helicopter operations at the air base, prompting a ban
within five kilometers of the landing and take-off zones.
The recent operation targeted areas adjacent to the airbase,
including Chah Sultan and Rawal Road. Future operations are planned in Jahaz
Ground, Dhok Laliyal, and Gangal Shakrial, as authorities continue their
efforts to mitigate hazards and ensure aviation safety around the Nur Khan Air
Base.
