Pakistan to upgrade security systems at Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar airports
The federal government is planning to invest 12 billion rupees in upgrading
security systems at four major airports in Pakistan.
Under the first phase, Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar airports will
be equipped with modern screening technology to strengthen security and improve
passenger facilitation.
The proposed project includes advanced computed tomography scanners for hand
and checked baggage, full-body scanners for passenger screening, and modern
equipment for inspecting cargo and vehicles. Communication systems for airport
security personnel will also be upgraded.

The initiative follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives issued on
October 10 for the installation of smart scanners at international airports to
automate baggage screening, reduce manual searches and minimise inconvenience
to passengers.
The investment aims to bring airport security procedures closer to
international standards while ensuring safer and smoother travel. Details
regarding the implementation schedule and allocation of funds for individual
airports have yet to be announced.
