PIA and Air France become partner to offer access to 21 cities on a single ticket

The latest agreement marks another step in PIA's efforts to strengthen its international operations

PIA offers access to 21 destinations across Europe on a single ticket

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has entered into a new partnership with Air France, enabling passengers to travel to 21 destinations across Europe on a single ticket in a move aimed at expanding the national carrier's international connectivity.

Announcing the collaboration, PIA said the agreement will allow travelers to book their entire journey under one itinerary, offering seamless connections, simplified travel arrangements, and greater convenience for passengers flying between Pakistan and Europe.

The airline said the partnership is designed to improve access to a wider European network through Air France's extensive route system, making onward travel easier without the need for multiple bookings or separate tickets.

The latest agreement marks another step in PIA's efforts to strengthen its international operations following a period of major structural and management changes.

Earlier this month, the airline selected former Ethiopian Airlines Chief Executive Officer Tewolde Gebremariam as its new Chief Executive Officer. The appointment remains subject to mandatory security clearances before it is formally announced.

Widely regarded as one of the aviation industry's most accomplished executives, Tewolde is credited with transforming Ethiopian Airlines into Africa's largest and one of the world's fastest-growing carriers during his tenure.

His expected appointment follows the completion of the first phase of PIA's privatization, under which management control of the national flag carrier was transferred to a consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation after all conditions of the Share Purchase and Subscription Agreement (SPSA) were fulfilled.

As part of the initial transaction, the consortium paid Rs10 billion to the government for the acquisition and injected Rs80 billion into the airline to improve its financial position.

In total, the consortium has committed Rs180 billion, including Rs55 billion for the purchase of a 75 percent stake in PIA and Rs125 billion in fresh capital to support the airline's long-term modernization and growth strategy.

The Air France partnership is expected to enhance PIA's appeal among international travelers by expanding its European footprint while supporting the airline's broader efforts to rebuild its global network and competitiveness following privatization.
