Pakistani airlines to resume flights to the US after audit report

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is expected to release its safety audit report on Pakistan’s aviation sector later this month, a development that could prove crucial for the resumption of direct flights by Pakistani airlines to the United States.

The report follows an FAA inspection conducted in September 2025, during which the visiting team reviewed airport infrastructure, flight safety practices, and the operational performance of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The audit also assessed the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) processes for pilot licensing examinations and other certifications.

Sources indicate that a second FAA delegation will arrive in Pakistan in January 2026, after the first report is issued. This follow-up team will focus specifically on security procedures at airports, airlines, and within the CAA. Its findings are expected to be released two to three months after the visit.

Pakistan reportedly paid $70,000 for the services of the consultant team that conducted the September audit. The United States had earlier barred Pakistani airlines from operating within its territory following a 2020 investigation into a suspected pilot licensing scandal.

Resumption of flights to US hinges on audit outcomes

Officials have confirmed that any decision on restoring Pakistani flight operations to the US will be made only after the security audit report is reviewed. The audits are considered vital for rebuilding international confidence in Pakistan’s aviation safety and regulatory standards.
