SUPARCO to launch new satellite from China's Xichang Satellite Launch Center
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research
Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the launch of a new Remote Sensing Satellite
(PRSS) on July 31, 2025, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
Designed for Earth observation, the
satellite will play a key role in supporting critical sectors such as
agriculture, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and disaster management.
It is expected to enhance Pakistan’s ability to predict and respond to natural
hazards including floods, earthquakes, landslides, glacier melt, and
deforestation.
The new PRSS satellite will also
contribute to geospatial mapping and infrastructure planning for major national
initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This mission will expand Pakistan’s
growing satellite fleet, which already includes PRSS-1, launched in 2018, and
the Electro-Optical Satellite EO-1, launched in January 2025. It aligns with
Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047, aimed at advancing the
country’s space technology for sustainable development.
Pakistan’s journey in space science
gained momentum with the launch of PakSat-1R in 2011, a communications
satellite developed in collaboration with China. This was followed by the
launch of PakTES-1A and PRSS-1 in 2018.
In 2024, PakSat-MM1 was launched to
deliver high-speed internet to remote areas, while the student-developed iCube
Qamar satellite captured images of the moon’s surface.
Earlier this year, Pakistan marked a
milestone by launching EO-1, its first fully indigenous satellite, developed by
local scientists and engineers. EO-1 is currently contributing to agricultural
monitoring, disaster response, and environmental assessment.
