Upgrade work on Skardu International Airport starts
The government has initiated a Rs180
million upgrade of Skardu International Airport, aiming to boost air
connectivity and promote economic growth in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The project was officially launched
during a ceremony at a local resort in Skardu, where a strategic development
roadmap was unveiled by the joint venture consultancy—Swiss firm Intairplan in
collaboration with Pakistani partners.

Senior officials from the Pakistan
Airports Authority were present, including the Director of Planning and Development,
the Additional Director of Project Monitoring, the Project Director for Skardu
International Airport, and the Airport Manager. Representatives from the local
administration, armed forces, law enforcement, and other key stakeholders also
attended the event.
The design consultancy contract has
been awarded for Rs180 million. Officials confirmed that construction is
expected to commence within a year, following the completion of the detailed
design and the PC-1 planning document.
Stakeholders at the event voiced
unanimous support for the initiative, praising the Pakistan Airports
Authority’s efforts to establish Skardu as a hub for international tourism and
trade. The project is seen as a significant step toward enhancing regional
connectivity and advancing broader economic integration.
