PAA confirms plans to expand Dera Ghazi Khan Airport

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has officially announced the planned upgrade of Dera Ghazi Khan Airport to accommodate Airbus A320 aircraft, with project completion expected by the end of next year.

The announcement was made during the Authority’s monthly e-Kacheri session, led by Sumair Saeed, Deputy Director General of Works and Development.

Saeed emphasized that the airport enhancement project will significantly boost regional connectivity, fulfilling a long-standing demand from both local residents and airline operators to enable operations of larger aircraft in the area.

The upgrade is expected to pave the way for new flight routes and increased flight frequency, contributing to the socioeconomic development of South Punjab.

In addition to DG Khan, Saeed outlined further improvement plans for Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, including airside infrastructure upgrades and expanded passenger parking facilities—initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall travel experience and meeting rising traffic demands.

As part of a broader strategy to improve national air connectivity, Saeed revealed that a business proposal has been circulated to multiple airlines, offering incentives to initiate flights between Gwadar and other destinations in Punjab and beyond. The goal is to unlock the commercial potential of underutilized airports and expand domestic travel options.

During the live session, Saeed also addressed public concerns submitted through the e-Kacheri platform, including complaints about flight delays, lost baggage, and misconduct by airline staff. He directed that a detailed report on these issues be compiled and submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority for appropriate follow-up.
