Prime Minister emphasizes importance of Gwadar Airport for Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday described the New Gwadar International Airport as a generous gift from China, emphasizing its importance for the economy of Balochistan and the entire country.

Presiding over a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted that the $230 million airport, funded by a Chinese grant, is a symbol of friendship between the two nations and must be respected. He welcomed the commencement of flight operations from the airport, calling it a positive step toward regional and national economic development.

The Prime Minister condemned those who seek to disrupt progress in Balochistan, stating that such actions are not only against the province but against Pakistan itself. He also underscored the importance of completing and operationalizing Gwadar Port, calling its development vital for the country's future.

During the meeting, the federal cabinet approved several key measures, including:

  • Extending the licenses of 86 foreign pilots working in Pakistan by two years.
  • Granting a three-year validation extension for new foreign pilots hired in 2025.
  • Approving rules for appointing the chairman and members of the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority.
  • Amending the Rules of Business 1973 to transfer responsibility for the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 from the Ministry of IT to the Ministry of Interior.

The cabinet also ratified decisions from the Economic Coordination Committee meetings held earlier this month and approved the appointment of Dr. Ammar Habib Khan as Member Finance of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Appellate Tribunal.
