Pakistan hopeful of restoration of US flights after FAA delegation’s upcoming visit
The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Nadir Shafi Dar, has announced that a delegation from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will visit Pakistan in February or March 2025.
According to Dar, Pakistan has established communication with the FAA and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) addressing outstanding financial obligations. The necessary payments to the FAA are expected to be completed soon. Dar expressed optimism that the FAA delegation’s visit will pave the way for the restoration of Pakistan’s FAA Category 1 status, from which it was downgraded to Category 2 in the past.

This downgrade led to the suspension of direct flights from Pakistan to the United States in 2017, which had previously included six weekly flights, with four to New York and two to Chicago. The MoU with the FAA aims to resolve the pending issues and facilitate the resumption of flight operations.
Additionally, Dar revealed that the UK’s Department for Transport is planning a visit to Pakistan next month, with an online meeting scheduled for the third week of December. He mentioned that a visit to the UK is planned for January, and upon return, there is hope that flights to the UK could resume by March 2025, following a positive decision by the European Union.
Dar remains hopeful that these developments will lead to the restoration of direct international flight services, including to the United States and the UK.
