Punjab Chief Minister asks father to buy PIA

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has proposed that her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, consider purchasing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in light of the recent privatization efforts, which garnered limited interest. She suggested rebranding it as "Air Punjab" after transforming it into a leading airline.

Nawaz shared this idea with reporters in New York, noting the recent interest from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which has offered over Rs10 billion for PIA.

The Privatization Commission has announced plans to restart bidding, following a lackluster bid from the Blue World City Consortium.

Nawaz expressed his disappointment over PIA’s struggles and criticized the previous PTI government for its handling of the airline. He suggested that discussions about establishing a new airline could be underway and lamented the decline of PIA, recalling his own need to switch flights to reach the U.S.
