Helicopter crash in Pakistan claims lives of six persons, including three foreign pilots

A chartered helicopter crash in Pakistan’s North Waziristan region has resulted in the deaths of six passengers, including three foreign pilots, and left nine others severely injured. The Mi-8 helicopter, which was carrying a total of 15 passengers, went down near an oil field during a routine flight.

The helicopter, operated by Mari Petroleum Limited, crashed due to technical reasons, according to a company spokesperson. They emphasized that the incident was unrelated to the region's security situation.

The victims included three foreign pilots, reportedly from Russia, while the injured were quickly transported to a nearby hospital, with relief operations coordinated by the Pakistan Army. The wounded were taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Thal.

Initial reports indicate that the crash occurred shortly after takeoff when the helicopter experienced technical difficulties, leading to an emergency landing attempt where the tail rotor struck the ground.

An investigation into the incident is underway, both by Mari Petroleum and relevant authorities. Helicopter accidents are not uncommon in Pakistan; a previous incident in September last year resulted in the deaths of two Pakistan Navy officers and a sailor during a training flight in Balochistan due to technical issues.
