Report blames delayed aircraft maintenance for PIA’s $78 million loss
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has incurred a loss of PKR 21.8 billion (approximately USD 78.2 million) due to prolonged maintenance issues affecting its aircraft over more than a decade, according to a recent Auditor General's report.
The audit reveals that the state-owned airline had been aware of maintenance inefficiencies as far back as 2012.

Despite this knowledge, successive management teams failed to minimize aircraft ground time. Several aircraft were left out of service for significantly longer than necessary for required inspections.
PIA has attributed these delays to its severe financial troubles, which have hindered timely maintenance payments. However, the airline did not provide a detailed response to the Auditor General's inquiries.
