PIA has over 10,000 employees for a fleet of 34 aircraft
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials revealed to the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Aviation that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) currently employs a workforce of 10,323 individuals. This disclosure was made during a meeting held in Islamabad.
In addition to detailing PIA's workforce, the officials provided updates on various aspects of the aviation sector in Pakistan. They informed the committee that out of 121 approved positions within the Aviation Ministry, 106 are currently occupied, leaving 15 positions vacant.

Regarding PIA's fleet, the officials reported a total of 34 aircraft, out of which 12 are currently grounded. The operational fleet consists of 22 aircraft, with an additional 13 on dry lease.
Among the workforce at PIA, there are 7,399 regular employees, according to the officials.
The officials also mentioned that the Roosevelt Hotel, associated with PIA, has remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During its first year of closure, rooms at the hotel were rented out at a rate of $202 per room.

It is noteworthy that a consortium comprising six companies has been pre-qualified for the privatization process of PIA. These companies will now participate in the bidding process, following a decision made during a meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board chaired by Federal Privatization Minister Aleem Khan.
