PIA fails to transfer Rs. 1.3 b funds of closed stations

Pakistan’s national flag-carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has not transferred funds of closed stations amounting to Rs 1.3 billion back to Pakistan.

According to a report of ARY News, this has been revealed in Auditor General’s 2021-22 report.

The national airline was supposed to immediately transfer the amount of Rs 1.35 billion back to Pakistan according to the rules.

The un-transferred amount was from the closed stations in Barcelona, New York, Kuwait, Thailand and Singapore.

The report blamed incompetence and non-serious attitude of the administration to this lapse which resulted in extra financial burden on the Pakistan International Airlines.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also asked Pakistan to minimize the losses of Pakistan International Airlines that have reached Rs. 400 billion.
