Arif Habib vows to make PIA a profitable airline
Prominent businessman and founder of
the Arif Habib Group, Muhammad Arif
Habib, has said that restoring Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) to profitability is the foremost objective,
while making it clear that future job security will be linked strictly to
employee performance.
Speaking to the media in Karachi,
Habib assured PIA employees that the airline’s workforce would be safeguarded,
noting that the carrier once achieved world-class status because of its staff.
He said the aim is to revive that legacy through greater efficiency,
accountability, and improved service standards.

“Pakistan has won, and we will bring PIA back to its former glory,” Habib said, stressing that the airline’s turnaround requires a performance-driven culture. He reiterated that only employees who deliver results will continue with the organisation, adding that merit and productivity will guide all decisions.
Habib also clarified that the
existing agreement does not allow for any change to PIA’s name, highlighting
the importance of preserving the airline’s national identity as part of its
revival strategy.
Pointing to PIA’s market potential,
he noted that around 14 million Pakistanis live abroad, a figure that rises to
more than 70 million when their families at home are included. He described
this large diaspora as a stable and reliable customer base that can support the
airline’s long-term growth.

He further highlighted PIA’s priority status in Hajj and Umrah operations, calling it a key strategic advantage. Habib said efforts are underway to route a larger share of Pakistani travel through the national carrier to strengthen revenues and improve operational sustainability.
According to Habib, disciplined
management, strong employee performance, and effective use of PIA’s inherent
market advantages will be central to restoring the airline’s profitability and
global standing.
