Romania seeks interest in enhancing partnership with Pakistan Air Force

Pakistan, Romania to bolster cooperation between their air forces 

Romania has expressed strong interest in enhancing defense cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in learning from the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) extensive operational experience, during a high-level meeting between military leaders of the two countries.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu met with Romania’s Secretary of Defence Eduard Bachide and Chief of Defence General Gheorgiță Vlad during his official visit to the country. The discussions focused on expanding military-to-military collaboration and exploring new avenues for joint engagement.

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu underscored Pakistan’s appreciation for its longstanding diplomatic and defense relations with Romania, highlighting shared views on regional peace and security. He reaffirmed the PAF’s commitment to deepening this partnership through enhanced cooperation, operational synergy, and professional development initiatives.

The Romanian Secretary of Defense commended the PAF for its exceptional combat record and operational capabilities, expressing Romania’s desire to benefit from the PAF’s rich experience in air operations.

General Vlad praised the professionalism and proficiency of the PAF and proposed greater collaboration through joint exercises, training exchanges, and capacity-building programs aimed at fostering long-term strategic ties between the two armed forces.

“The visit of the Chief of the Air Staff to Romania marks a significant step towards strengthening defense relations between the two nations and reflects their shared resolve to address emerging security challenges through sustained cooperation,” the ISPR said.

The visit follows the participation of a PAF contingent — featuring the advanced JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets — in the Indus Shield Alpha bilateral air exercise held in Azerbaijan on October 19. The drills aimed to bolster tactical coordination, mutual understanding, and interoperability between the Pakistan and Azerbaijan air forces.
