ICAO grants award to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for aviation security

The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has been awarded the prestigious Council President Certificate (CPC) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), recognizing Pakistan’s significant progress in strengthening aviation security standards.

The accolade was announced at ICAO’s 42nd Assembly Session held in Montreal, Canada, from September 23 to October 3, 2025. It highlights Pakistan’s improved compliance with global aviation safety and security regulations.

Receiving the award on behalf of Pakistan, PCAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar said the recognition reflects years of consistent effort to enhance aviation oversight and align national practices with ICAO’s global benchmarks. “Pakistan places great importance on aviation security,” he said, noting that the country’s Effective Implementation (EI) rating rose to 84.69% in the 2024 Coordinated Validation Mission, exceeding both regional and global averages. The country also achieved 86.79% in the Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP) the same year.

Officials attribute these improvements to ongoing reforms in airport management, security procedures, and staff training—initiatives designed to ensure full compliance with international protocols while enhancing passenger safety and operational efficiency.

Industry experts hailed the ICAO recognition as a milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector, signaling renewed international confidence and paving the way for deeper collaboration with global aviation partners.

DG Dar commended his team’s dedication, emphasizing that “this success belongs to everyone involved in Pakistan’s aviation system — from airport security personnel to engineers and regulatory officials.”
