Punjab Chief Minister sets July 30th as deadline
to enforce 'No-Bird Zones' around Lahore Airport
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed
authorities to clear all areas designated as “no-bird zones” within an
8-kilometre radius of Allama Iqbal International Airport by July 30.
An intensified operation is underway
to eliminate bird hazards near the airport, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The initiative is being jointly executed by teams from the Wildlife Department,
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and district administration.

“To ensure flight safety, clean-up
activities have been fast-tracked in zones falling under Lahore Cantonment,
Walton Cantonment, and the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC),” the
official said.
In Alfaisal Town, authorities have
dismantled pigeon nesting sites, enhanced monitoring of poultry shops, and
completed de-nesting at the Garrison Club. A strict ban has also been enforced
on bird feeding near slaughterhouses, poultry farms, shrines, and rooftops.

High-surveillance zones now include
Barkat Road, Bedian Road, DHA, Askari, Walton Road, and Gaddafi Stadium. Bird
cages have been removed from Bahar Shah Road and Zarrar Shaheed Road.
De-nesting operations have also
concluded in areas such as Shalamar Bagh, Bhatti Chowk, Jail Road, Mughalpura,
and RA Bazaar.
