SUPARCO to launch indigenous satellite on January 17

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the scheduled launch of its indigenous electro-optical satellite, EO-1, on January 17, 2025.

A SUPARCO spokesperson revealed that the EO-1 satellite has been developed to provide vital data for sectors such as disaster management, agriculture, urban planning, food security, and water resource management. The satellite will also play a key role in strengthening the country's ability to monitor and manage its natural resources.

"Pakistan’s EO-1 satellite represents a significant milestone in our space innovation efforts," the spokesperson said.

SUPARCO highlighted that the launch of EO-1 will significantly enhance the country’s ability to monitor natural resources across the nation, further boosting Pakistan’s space program and technological capabilities.

Earlier, in May 2024, Pakistan successfully launched its first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China. Positioned 36,000 kilometers above Earth, PAKSAT-MM1 is designed for a 15-year operational lifespan and is equipped with advanced communication technologies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his optimism about the advancements, stating that the satellite would not only improve Pakistan’s communication systems but also provide faster internet access, driving progress in e-commerce, economic development, and e-governance.
