EASA to audit PIA, PCAA before granting permission to fly again in EU

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will conduct an online audit of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) that could lead to lifting a ban on PIA flights to the EU.

The ban was imposed by European regulators after the 2020 fake degree scandal hit the aviation industry of Pakistan.

The EASA audit team will inspect various issues related to flight operations, including flight safety and flight engineering.

In November 2022, Pakistani Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique had expressed confidence that the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would be able to resume flights to EU within six months.
